Before we dive in, it’s important to understand that there is a difference between spiritual sovereignty and physical sovereignty.

When we talk about physical sovereignty, we are referring to legal sovereignty—being sovereign in a juridical sense and not being bound to the laws and systems currently in place in this world. This is a topic in itself and far too expansive to cover here.

In this blog, we are focusing solely on spiritual sovereignty, also known as personal sovereignty.

What Does It Mean to Be Sovereign?

So, what does it actually mean to be sovereign?

Lisa Renee, the creator of Energetic Synthesis, describes sovereignty (or self-ownership) as follows:

“Self-ownership (or sovereignty of the individual, individual sovereignty or individual autonomy) is the concept of property in one’s own person, expressed as the moral or natural right of a person to have bodily integrity, and be the exclusive controller of her or his own life, as well as body, mind, and spirit.

To achieve self-ownership, one must make the effort to know their innermost selves, understand how their body and consciousness work, as well as become aware of personal motivations and perceptions that influence their life decisions and quality of lifestyle.

To master ourselves on the earth plane is to attain self-mastery, which is the process by which a person may have the freedom to take control over their own life, body, mind, and spirit.”
Lisa Renee

In order to be sovereign, we also need to understand that all beings are required to act in alignment with Cosmic Sovereign Law. You can see this as a spiritual law, very different from—and far greater than—the human laws we are born into.

Lisa Renee describes the Cosmic Sovereign Law as follows:

“Understand that no being can exist within Cosmic Sovereign Law and simultaneously perform actions in violation of that Law.

Once a being violates this Law, they are no longer sovereign, because they have chosen to operate outside of it.

In reclaiming sovereignty for oneself, one has the moral imperative to live in alignment with the Law—and therefore claim sovereignty not only for oneself, but for all other life forms.

It is imperative that there is no assertion to control another via manipulation or by taking over another person’s right to self-determination.”
Lisa Renee

Note: From a higher perspective, every human being is already sovereign. But when we drift away from our inner truth, we also drift away from our sovereignty.

Becoming fully sovereign is not easy. In truth, it is a lifetime of work. Still, there are practical steps we can take to begin reclaiming our sovereignty.

Clearing the Negative Ego

We often make un-sovereign choices when we are being overpowered by our ego. If we want to become sovereign, we must be willing to work with our negative ego.

Lisa Renee describes the negative ego as follows:

“The conceit of egotism describes a person who acts to gain value for self-serving motivations and instinctual desires, while taking in an excessive amount of resources compared to what they give back.

This may also be referred to as Service to Self.

These actions often involve taking others’ energy, time, and resources, and are accompanied by low ethical standards and weak moral character traits.”
Lisa Renee

To become sovereign, we choose in every decision and action to align with our inner guidance, rather than the ego. This is not always easy—especially when trauma and old wounds rise to the surface.

When we lack self-awareness, it can be difficult to distinguish what is ego and what is our inner guidance. And that’s okay. We are all continually evolving, and making mistakes is part of the process.

Still, diving into ego work is one of the most beneficial things you can do—not just for sovereignty, but for every area of your life.

Revocations

Spiritual sovereignty isn’t just something we think about or understand mentally. It shows up in everyday life, in the small choices we make and the way we relate to ourselves. The practices below are meant to support that lived experience.

One relatively simple yet powerful way to reclaim your sovereignty is through revocations.

A revocation is a written statement or spiritual contract that you read out loud or internally, with intention and awareness. While doing a revocation, you may notice yawning—this is often a sign of energetic shifting.

Below is a shortened example of a revocation titled “Revocation of Deception”:

I call forth all spiritual contracts that exist at any and all levels of creation that would have me believe any lies or non-truths as truth.

I revoke consent to hold, run, or interact with any imprints, implants, overlays, templates, or codes of deception, and I request their removal by the Living Light now.

I revoke consent to be deceived, betrayed, or lied to by any entity—physical or non-physical—including other people’s ego and my own ego.

I permanently and completely revoke all consent to be tricked, misled, or deceived across all dimensions, timelines, and planes of existence.

I claim my right to clearly know the energy, voice, and messages of my Higher Self.

I claim my full sovereignty as a cosmic sovereign being now.
Glacia Rain

After reading a revocation, you may choose to repeat it out loud. You can also return to it whenever you feel off or not fully yourself. Revocations can be repeated as often as you feel called to.

There are many revocations available from sovereign spiritual teachers, and you can also create your own.
For professionally written revocations covering different life themes, I recommend Glacia Rain’s work.

Spiritual Hygiene

To truly step into sovereignty, we need more than ego work and revocations—we also need a spiritual hygiene routine.

Throughout our lives, we encounter countless people and energies. These energies can deeply influence how we feel about ourselves, our lives, and the choices we make.

This is why it’s important to return anything that is not ours to its rightful owner, especially when we feel off or disconnected—even if we don’t know where the energy originated. You can simply return what isn’t yours by setting the intention.

By doing this, we gain clarity about what is ours to take responsibility for (self-ownership) and what is not.

Living an optimal life requires regular energetic clearing. A spiritual hygiene routine doesn’t need to take much time, but it does require intention, consistency, and awareness.

Claiming Your Sovereignty

Another practice is simply claiming your sovereignty.

Setting intentions is incredibly powerful, and this applies here as well. Even if you don’t fully understand what sovereignty entails, it matters that you state your willingness.

You can simply say—internally or out loud:
“I claim my sovereignty.”

This can look very simple in practice—like noticing when you say yes while your body says no, or when you override your own truth to keep the peace. Each time you choose differently, sovereignty becomes more embodied.

Be aware, though, that revocations and claiming sovereignty can bring challenges. When we claim sovereignty, we also begin clearing everything that stands in the way of it—and that process isn’t always comfortable.

At the same time, this process often brings more clarity, self-trust, and inner stability. What falls away is usually what was never truly aligned to begin with.

Transmuting, Clearing & Releasing

At some point in the awakening journey, we all encounter the concept of sovereignty.

To awaken, we must transmute, clear, and release trauma and density from our system so higher consciousness can come through. Every healing practice that brings awareness and integration simultaneously supports sovereignty.

This is an ongoing process. It may include:

  • Shadow work

  • Somatic work

  • EFT

  • Internal Family Systems

  • Constellation work

  • Belief work

  • Therapy and other healing modalities

Sovereignty goes hand in hand with personal growth, healing, and self-discovery.

You may already be working on your sovereignty—without even realizing it.

Final Note

Sovereignty isn’t only about learning from external sources, even though those can be incredibly helpful. Ultimately, true sovereignty comes from learning to read your own internal manuals—the wisdom that can only be found within.

This is where real sovereignty begins.

“Someone else’s truth binds you.
Your own truth frees you.”

Vedic Teachings

Sovereignty, or self-ownership, is not easy. When it is presented as something quick or effortless, it usually signals that the depth of this work is being bypassed.

This work is not for everyone, and for many it may feel overwhelming or abstract. But when you are ready, this path will find you—and it will make sense in its own time.

Trust that you are already on your path, remembering who you truly are, listening, and gradually reclaiming your own power.

With Love, Naomi
